We’re delighted to announce that legendary singer songwriter Ralph McTell and folk/blues guitar supremo Wizz Jones will be visiting the Bonington, both celebrating 50 years on the road and promoting their first album together.
Known for his virtuoso guitar style, Ralph is primarily a prolific and gifted songwriter with a style that invites you into a unique world, weaving a narrative that is both significant and poignant.
Ralph made his debut in 1968 with the album ‘Eight Frames a Second’ and in 1974 the release of ‘Streets of London’ earned him an Ivor Novello Award. In 2002 he was presented with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Inspired by hearing Big Bill Broonzy and Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Wizz learnt his guitar licks from the likes of Davy Graham and Long John Baldry whilst playing in the coffee bars of London’s Soho in the late 1950’s. He then followed the time-honoured busker’s trail from the streets of Paris to the markets of Marrakech during the early 1960’s and returned to Britain with a unique acoustic guitar style, an eclectic repertoire and a right hand worthy of Broonzy!
