Maire Ni Chathasaigh & Chris Newman- Irish Harp & Guitar

Available dates

Wed 8 Feb, 7:30pm

In a class of their own, ‘one of the UK’s most staggering and influential acoustic guitarists’ (Roots Magazine) in concert with the ‘doyenne of Irish harpers’ (Scotland On Sunday) take to the stage with a spellbinding treat for the audience.

A breath-taking blend of traditional Irish and Scottish music, swing jazz, bluegrass and baroque, as well as festive favourites given a fresh voice with moving and beautiful arrangements, this very special concert charms from the first few magical chords.

The celebrated virtuoso partnership of Máire Ní Chathasaigh and Chris Newman has by now brought its special musical vision to venues large and small – from the tiniest of historic churches in England, Germany and Italy to palaces in Kyoto and Istanbul, London’s Barbican, Sydney Town Hall and the Philharmonie in Cologne – in twenty-two countries on five continents. Their performances are rooted but eclectic, emotional but adventurous: a blend of traditional Irish music, hot jazz, bluegrass and baroque, coupled with striking new compositions and a delightfully subversive wit.

‘Brilliant, innovative harping and guitar-playing of astonishing virtuosity and versatility.’ Songlines Magazine ★★★★

‘Music of fire and brilliance from the high-wire act in traditional music. Their virtuosity leads them on… Máire chomps on the bit of the harp’s respectability, playing storming jigs and reels. So moving – technical brilliance and beauty that brings tears to the eyes.’ Irish Times ★★★★
