Stan Getz is probably best known for his stunning album Getz/Gilberto that brought to prominence bossa nova and the classic song “Girl from Ipanema” and for his signature sax sound. But he enjoyed a career spanning decades and jazz genres, taking in both bebop and cool jazz.
This wonderful gig features music from the band’s brand new album Ballads and Bossas. It explores Stan’s varied musical legacy, interpreting the music respectfully but not reverentially, allowing it to breathe and feel natural for our time. It’s Allsopp’s salute to one of his all-time saxophone heroes – Stan Getz.
