10.30 – Exploration workshop examining the themes, context, characters, ideas and plot of the film as well as examining the acting styles and direction.

Tuesday 27^th January – Song Sung Blue (12A)

This film is based on the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, played by Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, who were a Milwaukee married couple with kids from previous relationships and formed a cheesy Neil Diamond tribute act called Lightning and Thunder in the 90s. They became a cult hit in their home state and even opened for Pearl Jam whose guitarist Eddie Vedder good-naturedly joined them on stage for an encore.

The film, directed by Craig Brewer, reinvents their ‘never-say-die’ story with great humour and cheerful optimism in tandem with the reality of the couple trying to make a living on the periphery of the music industry. Both Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson are excellent in the main roles and are supported by strong performances from actors depicting other tribute artists on the circuit.
